Headphones are great to easily listen to things without worrying about the noise your device is making. Plus, it allows you plenty of privacy. This is a great feat of technology, but it also has its drawbacks.

These have been known to increased Noise-Induced Hearing Loss among the youth. When used, it’s placed into the ear and close to the rest of the auditory system. This heightens the risk it poses to our hearing. Excessively loud sounds are damaging  to the ears as they are now in closer proximity. It’s no surprise that these are one of the causes for many cases of hearing loss.

These have become essential components to people nowadays. It’s quite hard to avoid using them especially for those whose jobs or duties require its usage. Plus, don’t we all love watching videos or listening to music and podcasts on-the-go? That doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice your ability to hear as there is always a means of safely using these.

1. Noise Isolating Headphones

One of the main reasons people tend to increase the volume of their headphones to unhealthy levels is due to the background noise. This makes it harder for them to enjoy what they want to listen to. This type of tool impedes external sounds from entering into your ears. Though it does not guarantee to totally shut out the outside environment, it does keep out most of the noise.

2. Noise Cancelling Headphones

Don’t make the mistake of confusing this to be the same as that of the formerly mentioned kind of headphone. Noise-canceling models try to obstruct outer noise, and cancels ones that do make it in. This makes for better performance. If this is within your budget, this would be the best choice to make for your well-being. This allows nothing to compete with the audio from your gadget. This allows you to enjoy your sounds at a reasonable level.

3. In-Ear Headphones

You insert these into the ear canal. Since these are much closer to the eardrum, it means sounds from these are much easier to recognize. This minimizes the need to actually crank up its volume. Its proximity to your auditory network can also become a disadvantage. If, for whatever reason, you do intensify the sound, it harms your ears much faster.

No matter the type, it’s of no avail if you are abusive and undisciplined when saving your ability to hear. Always be careful with headphones like these. Avoid placing it above 60% of its capability to amplify noise, unless the audio is too faint to grasp.

If possible, do not use these more than an hour every day. Prolonged exposure could destroy your hearing abilities. The trick here is moderation and restraining from turning the volume up too high.
